COLONIUS - URBAN DWELLINGS
IN THE GREEN RING
Master Thesis, winter term 2019/20
Anna Keitemeier
Technische Universität Dortmund
The project issues the planning of a new sustainable district in the urban center of Cologne.
The urban vision provides densification in form of a sculptural high-rise ring along the concentric urban park, the so-called Green Ring. Thus, the towers become a new part of the concentric city morphology. Higher buildings are placed along the roads so that the city gets again a visible contour. The concept is radically dense and high: a maximum use of space and minimum sealing is aimed to free enough space for the urban park.
The architectural vision envisages a 150m wooden hybrid high-rise residential tower. The building includes public facilities like artist studios, offices, gyms and shops. The apartments, privately financed and cooperative, are located above the treetops to provide a view over the city. The greening of the outer facades on the residential floors is a crucial part of the architecture. The essential building material is timber, a renewable, CO2-neutral and regional building material with a high prefabrication rate and high rationalization in the construction process. In order to fulfill structural requirements and fire protection, concrete used where necessary.

winter term 2018/19
Anna Keitemeier
Technische Universität Dortmund
The project issues the construction of a new ward block for the St. Mary‘s Hospital in Düsseldorf.
The typology of a high-rise building is chosen in order to formulate a landmark for this public building and to integrate in the city‘s high-rise landscape. Furthermore a new public place, that welcoms all neighbors, is planned in front of the hospital‘s entrance.
Research about different architectonic hospital typologies, including investigations on architectural psycological factors that promote the healing of the patients, were included in the design. The hospital‘s garden is renewed to form a green oasis in the city‘s center. In close cooperation with a student of civil engineering, and a student of Real Estate and Construction Management, the architectonic design, the structural design and the technical building services were planned.

Anna Keitemeier
École nationale supérieure d‘architecture de Paris la Villette
The spatial planning utopia envisages the development of a district in the northern banlieues of Paris. It comprises several cities of about 2500 ha. Due to its proximity to the Seine, as well as to the Stade de France, this area has a high urban development potential. Based on detailed spatial and urban planning analyses, the concept Le Tour de l‘Île is developed. By building a new tramway line around the Île Saint Denis and by envisaging dwellings on the existing industrial wastelands, the municipalities are densified and connected. Along this tramway line, cultural buildings of intercommunal relevance will be built. Furthermore,
two new pedestrian bridges will also strengthen the connection.
Based on this spatial planning concept, an architectural project is elaborated. The cultural centre is located on the western bank of the Seine and includes a music conservatory, a dance school, a library and a cafeteria. The building forms a clear public square in the middle and extends to the banks of the Seine. The supporting structure is made of reinforced concrete and steel, the facade is a post and beam construction to let in as much light as possible.
